Distribution

Native to temperate Europe and also naturalised in parts of North America and some other temperate regions including New Zealand. Widespread on Mull.

Habitat

According to Jermy & Crabbe (1978) it is found on roadsides, among rocks, in wood and plantation margins and on grassy slopes with Pteridium.
